Please note, this item is considered a second choice by our factory in France. All seconds are handmade using our usual crafting methods, but with minor glazing or ceramic blemishes, neither of which minimize the quality of performance. In an effort to minimize our impact on the environment, unglazed items are recycled and the materials reused. For the same reason, we've decided to make our seconds available for purchase at a significant discount. If you're visiting the Burgundy region of France, you can shop our ceramic seconds in our physical Emile Henry Factory Shop, located in Marcigny. In the U.S., seconds are available online only.

In common use, sublime is an adjective meaning "awe-inspiringly grand”, like the best chocolate fudge sundae you've ever had. The result of extensive research, ‘Sublime’ ceramic makes it possible to create and serve all kinds of recipes—with unparalleled ease of use. Sublime is made from a new ceramic technology designed to do all kinds of cooking and to do it better than other materials. What makes this technology so remarkable is its versatility. It can handle the high heat of searing, frying or barbecuing on the grill and also softly cook on low heat so that sugars in a caramel sauce or a custard are gently heated without burning or over cooking. The Sublime ceramic distributes heat smoothly across the whole pot better than any metal, including cast iron or stainless steel and it is 50% lighter than those other materials. Sublime can be used on direct flame, stovetop - gas, electric or glass, charcoal or gas BBQ grills, in the oven, microwave, and is dishwasher safe.

The enamel is so thick and even I keep forgetting it’s a second, and the lid seals like a dream for braises. The tiny glaze dimple on the side is invisible once it’s on the stove, and honestly, at this price I’d buy another in a heartbeat.

Violet ★★★★★

The lid fits so snugly that steam barely escapes, and the enamel inside is smooth as glass despite the tiny glaze fleck on the side. I've used it three times this week for stews and it's become my go-to pot already. For a factory second, you'd never guess it's not perfect.

Jacob N. ★★★★★

I was a little nervous about buying a "second," but the glaze imperfection is just a tiny dimple near the lid that I only notice if I'm looking for it. The enamel inside is perfectly smooth and the lid fits so snugly that steam barely escapes while I braise. This is my first French-made pot and the
